COMMUNITIES
We pride ourselves on our chicken, but we’re also committed to being a good neighbour in the heart of the communities where we have restaurants. We believe in feeding people’s potential in our local communities – and we do that by investing in the next generation, creating a more sustainable and equitable future for young people, and empowering them to reach their full potential. And it’s through our youth and community programmes, and partnerships like Hatch, the KFC Youth Foundation, the food donation scheme, and the Great British Spring Clean, that’s allowing us to make this happen.
Hatch: Helping ambitious young talent take flight
Hatch is an employability programme created and launched by KFC and UK Youth in 2022 to support disadvantaged young people into long-term employment and build their work skills and confidence. The partnership is focused on helping young people - particularly those who have missed out on traditional employment opportunities and who may not have had the best start in life – to unlock their potential. The programme aims to break cycles of inequality, disadvantage and unemployment facing today’s generation of young people, which was exacerbated throughout the pandemic.
KFC Youth Foundation: Empowering young people to fulfil their potential
The KFC Youth Foundation loves its communities and since it was founded in 2015, we’ve been dishing out grants to our charity partners by the bucket load (more than £8m in fact ). Our aim is to support grassroots organisations in the heart of our restaurant communities, working with organisations focused on empowering young people in the UK to fulfil their potential and build a positive future by providing safe social spaces, mentoring or work, and social skills.
Food donation scheme: Enabling access to protein rich food
Over 13 million people in the UK are struggling to get enough to eat – that’s nearly 1 in 5 of the UK’s population (Figures from The Food Foundation) – Of which, 4 million are children. No child should ever go to bed hungry. There are more people in food insecurity now as a result of the cost-of-living crisis. We’ve already started tackling food waste in our restaurants but we’re sometimes left with food that isn’t going to be sold, so we choose to work with redistribution partners to help us get it to people that really need it.
Tackling Litter Locally: Improving the environment for local communities
Taking care of local spaces couldn’t be more important when it comes to looking after the wellbeing and future of our local communities and their local environment. And that matters to us – it’s key to being a good neighbour; ensuring that everyone can enjoy local spaces around them. That’s why we have a big commitment to stamp down on litter. We’re committed to getting it right – and by partnering with Keep Britain Tidy for its annual Great British Spring Clean, we’re working together with our communities, partners and customers to do our bit to keep our local spaces cleaner and greener, both now and for future generations.
