YOU HATE LITTER, WE HATE LITTER
At KFC we hate litter, and we take our responsibility to reduce the impact of litter seriously.
SO WHAT ARE WE DOING ABOUT IT?
With great chicken comes great responsibility and over the last few years, we’ve stepped up our efforts to address littering with a renewed litter commitment and partnership with Keep Britain Tidy. We started by asking Local Councillors across the UK what action they wanted us to take, and since then we’ve listened and provided:
• More litter-picking around our restaurants.
• More communication with our customers, specifically anti-littering marketing messages across KFC restaurants including more signage, in-restaurant audio and menu board displays to encourage responsible behaviour.
• Less packaging.
OUR WORK WITH KEEP BRITAIN TIDY
This year we launched a new community grant scheme of £40,000 to allow local volunteer groups to apply directly through Keep Britain Tidy for litter-pickers, gloves, bag hoops and other essential equipment, all funded by KFC. Over 500 local litter picking groups have now secured extra equipment through the scheme.
In 2023 over 600 of our restaurants took part in Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean and together we collected 20,000 bags of litter within our communities across the UK. And over the last three years, we’ve collected over 50,000 bags of litter as proud partners of the Great British Spring Clean, and we look forward to picking up even more bags in 2024 and beyond with Keep Britain Tidy.
OUR WORK WITH HUBBUB
This year we launched a new community grant scheme of £40,000 to allow local volunteer groups to apply directly through Keep Britain Tidy for litter-pickers, gloves, bag hoops and other essential equipment, all funded by KFC. Over 500 local litter picking groups have now secured extra equipment through the scheme.
We’re also excited to be partnering with environmental charity Hubbub, this year, on a new behaviour change campaign. We’re working with Manchester City Council and Southampton City Council to trial new ways to tackle littering, such as testing localised anti-littering marketing messages and piloting the creation of new, concept voting bins. The bins are due to be on the streets of Manchester and Southampton this summer – watch this space!
